Pre-grading

Measure your card's centering before you send it off.

One photo of the front, one of the back: centering to a tenth of a percent and the highest PSA grade it allows.

Why start here

Centering, the one thing you can check for sure at home

It's the only criterion you can measure at home with certainty. For a PSA 10, the front has to stay within 55/45 and the back within 75/25. A card outside those limits won't get above a 9, whatever its condition.

How

Three steps

Lay the card on a matt black background, no flash, 20 to 30 cm away, at 2x or 3x zoom. Photograph the front, then the back. The app finds the edges, measures left and right, top and bottom, and shows the highest PSA grade the centering allows, with a strict grade too.

Also

Corners and edges checked

Whitening on the corners and edges is picked up from the photo. The surface isn't analysed, and the app tells you so: scratches and print defects still need checking under a lamp.
